Annual Prom Dress Event Volunteers

Help with set-up and tear-down at the event location and warehouse (MEN WELCOME) – A semi truck is loaded at the FGI Dress Shop and unloaded at the event location, moving hundreds of dresses and dozens of boxes, as well as extra racks and other store fixtures. All dresses and accessories are then properly arranged and displayed in the event space. The process must be done in reverse after the event concludes.

Check-in / Checkout attendants check girls in at entry and collect donations from the girls.  Then check the girls out tracking how many received dresses.

Fairy Godmothers assist girls throughout the entire process of receiving a dress and accessories from FGI. Fairy Godmothers offer a friendly greeting and pleasant conversation while helping each girl find her perfect dress.

Dressing room attendants control the flow of girls into the dressing room.

Dressing room rack attendants re-hang and bag unselected dresses.

Dress runners are in charge of maintaining organized and neat dressing rooms and dress racks, which includes picking dresses up off the floor, hanging them carefully, and returning them to their proper place on the racks.

Dress rack supervisors make sure dresses that come back from the dressing room are rehung in the proper location.

Shoe, jewelry, purse/glove, and cosmetics assistants help by offering oversight and expertise, maintaining the organization and neatness of the inventory, and helping girls make selections.

Baggers bag all dresses at checkout (MEN WELCOME).

Alterations – volunteers who sew perform alterations on hundreds of dresses in the weeks following the event. We need volunteers with sewing skills at the event (as pinners), after the event to do the alterations, and periodically throughout the year for various projects.

Year-Round Volunteers

Event Planning Committee
The Event Planning Committee helps organize the yearly event contacting potential vendors for swag bags coordinating other volunteers.

Event Marketing Committee
These individuals spread the word about our events. Reaching out to local media, schools and other community-centric organizations.

Help with picking up dresses from donors

Volunteers will pick up donations and take them to the FGI dress room as needed.

Collection Drives for dresses and accessories
Ask your employer, organization, or school to let you organize a dress and accessory drive. We collect all year long, so the timing of a collection drive is up to you and your sponsoring organization. We’ll arrange for pickup when you’re done.

Seasonal Dress Sales & Fundraiser Events

This year FGI hold two to three weekend-long dress sales to sell donated dresses that are not prom-appropriate. Volunteers:

• Help with set-up
• Assist shoppers
• Maintain neatness of dressing/fitting rooms
• Ensure dresses are returned to the proper racks
